Expired Beauty Products: Here's When To Toss Yours

It's time to reevaluate your makeup situation.

With a new year on the horizon, it's time to start thinking of your new beauty regime.

So first things first: throw out the old stuff.

Like most, we cherish our beauty products. We keep our makeup on the shelf for as long as we can, admiring our products and only applying them when needed most.

But like the movie "Frozen," there comes a time when you just have to "let it go."

Trust us, we understand how overloaded makeup bags can get. So we've enlisted Monica Richards of ModaMob to whip us into shape. In the video above, Richards explains when to start ditching those old and grimy makeup products by giving us the cold, hard truth when it comes to expiry dates.

A few key tips:

  • For dirty makeup brushes and sponges, if the bristles start falling out, it needs to go
  • If the brushes are also stained with cosmetics, say goodbye
  • If you've got an old tube of mascara kicking around, get rid of it right now or risk eye infections
  • If your perfect foundation starts changing colours or you've had it longer than 18-months, find your nearest garbage and toss it

Watch the video above for more helpful makeup-decluttering tips – and then get to work on that bathroom.
