Girl's Hair Changes Colour In Light, Boyfriend And World Freak Out

Is it blue, purple, violet or pink? AHH!

Guys, don't freak out. But we might just have another "The Dress" situation on our hands.

Back in May, the Internet exploded when 24-year-old beauty vlogger Sabrina Abu-Obeid dyed her hair violet. Nothing out of the ordinary, right? Wrong. When in the kitchen, the Melbourne, Florida native appeared to sported her new violet locks in a long hairstyle with side-swept bangs. But when she walked into the bathroom, something trippy happened: her hair turned pink.

Lol it looks like @djmonopoli see's dessert or something 😲

Filmed by her boyfriend, DJ Monopoli, the video has over four million views with many comments claiming that her hair is "magic."

"My boyfriend saw my hair change colors from pink to purple / blue and wanted to show me what he was seeing so he decided to shoot a quick video for me," Abu-Obeid writes in the YouTube video's description. "We thought it was interesting enough to upload so we posted it on Facebook and Imgur and it went viral."

But in an interview with Refinery29, Lucille Javier, a colourist at Sally Hershberger Downtown Salon in New York City, shared her expertise on the situation.

"What happens when you lighten dark hair and remove all the pigment is that it goes through different colours — it goes from red to orange, and then lands on a pale yellow. You can never turn dark hair completely white, or else it will be on the floor."

And this hairy situation has a lot to do with different lighting.

"All lighting is different," Javier says. "You have white light, fluorescent light, natural light. If you're in a bathroom without much natural light, you're not going to see much warmth in the hair."

A few weeks after the viral hit, Abu-Obeid released a video tutorial about how she achieve the illusion of colour-changing hair with different lighting.

In the words of boyfriend, Monopoli, in the video above: WHOA.
