Calgary Hitmen's Teddy Bear Toss Brings Record 28,815 Toys

All for charity, too.

Talk about a teddy bomb!

The WHL's Calgary Hitmen were gifted with nearly 30,000 bears as part of the annual Teddy Bear Toss on Sunday night.

The toys started raining on the ice after Calgary forward Jordy Stallard scored, and it was quite a sight:

The charity toss is held once a year by numerous teams across the league. Hockey fans are asked to bring their bears to games, where they're tossed on the ice to be given to various agencies.

The first event took place in 1995, and the Hitmen have raised just under 300,000 bears for charity.

For Calgary, Sunday's toss broke a franchise record — and the team knew just how to celebrate.

Over on the West Coast, the Vancouver Giants will host their own Teddy Bear Toss during a game against the Everett Silvertips on Dec. 18.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story stated that the teddy bears will go to goodwill. They will, in fact, go to a series of service agencies.
