Ian Crosby, Bench CEO, Named To Forbes '30 Under 30' List

Vancouverites are no stranger to the Forbes list.

The head of a Vancouver tech company has been recognized by Forbes magazine in prestigious list of young entrepreneurs.

Ian Crosby, the co-founder and CEO of Bench, was named to the U.S. publication's annual "30 Under 30" list on Monday. He clinched top spot in the enterprise technology category for his tech company's work in automating accounting tasks for small businesses.

"This accolade is testament to the fact that a tech company does not have to be in California to succeed,” said Crosby, 29, in a news release. "Finding impeccable talent is crucial to the success of Bench. Vancouver has a lot to offer in that respect."

"I like to think that — maybe in 10 years — people will think of accounting as something that's sexy."

Bench has grown from four co-founders to 200 employees in three years, according to the release. The company provides bookkeeping software and a support team of accountants to business owners via phone, email or in-app messaging.

"I might be a bit deluded, but I like to think that — maybe in 10 years — people will think of accounting as something that's sexy," he told Forbes.

Crosby was also named to BC Business' "30 under 30" in March. A graduate of the University of British Columbia's business program, he spent time in the military and worked at an NGO in Uganda before starting Bench.

Vancouverites are no stranger to the Forbes list. Brian Wong, the CEO of Kiip and an alumnus of UBC, has been given the "30 Under 30" distinction three times.
