VANCOUVER — Rescue crews are responding to a group of stranded hikers in Metro Vancouver.

North Shore Rescue says there are seven hikers who needed assistance at St. Mark's Summit near West Vancouver's Cypress Mountain. One is a diabetic and had trouble walking, team leader Mike Danks told CBC News.

"It appears they pushed the light window to enjoy the sunset on the summit, but turned around too late and became stranded without light," said the volunteer rescue group in a Facebook update.

Rescuers reached the group on Saturday night and were taking them to safety.
