Daniel Dion Dead: Celine's Brother Faced His Own Cancer Battle

He had cancer of the throat, brain and tongue.

Celine Dion's brother is fighting his own cancer battle, reports say, just a day after her husband René Angélil died following his own illness.

Daniel Dion, the singer's 59-year-old sibling, only has "days or hours" to live, her sister Claudette told Le Journal de Montreal.

UPDATE: Jan. 16 -- Daniel Dion has died.

A representative for the Canadian chanteuse confirmed the report to ET Canada on Friday.

Claudette told Le Journal that Daniel has cancer of the throat (which is what Angélil had), brain and tongue.

Dion's 89-year-old mother Therese has traveled to Montreal to be by Daniel's side, along with other family members.

There are 14 siblings in the Dion family; Celine is the youngest, Daniel is eighth-oldest and 12 years her senior.

Claudette also paid tribute to Angélil, calling him an "outstanding" person in her interview with Le Journal.

She said he brought Quebec music to an international audience, having helped to bring Celine's voice to people around the world.

Celine isn't expected to return to her residency at Caesars Palace until Feb. 23. Performances on Jan. 16 and 17 have been cancelled.
