David Bowie: A Nail Art Design Inspired By Ziggy Stardust

Last week, the world lost a creative genius.

David Bowie pushed the boundaries of music and fashion by transforming into one of his many personas. You almost can't imagine having such artists as Madonna or Lady Gaga without the influence of Bowie. His music has stood the test of time and has spoken to generation after generation.

To pay homage to Ziggy Stardust, I've created this easy nail design inspired by the cover of Aladdin Sane, Bowie's sixth album.

To begin this design, paint all of your nails except for one with a medium-light blue polish. Once the polish has dried, top it off with a blue glitter polish to represent outer space, which Bowie sang about a lot in his songs.

For the lightning bolt design, start off with two coats of a pale nude polish. Allow this to dry, and then take an orange-red for the lightning bolt. Using a thin nail art brush, create a line in the shape of a lightning bolt to divide the nail in half, and then fill in the rest of that half.

Clean off the brush using some nail polish remover, and use the blue from the other nails once again. Follow the red lightning bolt shape with the blue polish, trying to keep that line as consistent in thickness as possible. If you feel comfortable with it, and have a very thin nail art brush, you can add a very thin black line between the blue and red.

Allow the lightning bolt design and the rest of the nails to dry for about 10 minutes, and then apply a top coat so that your out-of-this-world design lasts all week.
