LA LOCHE, Sask. — A school in the northern Saskatchewan community of La Loche says it is dealing with an emergency situation and is asking people to stay away.

CTV News quotes an official from the Northern Lights School Division talking about an "active shooter'' in the school's Dene building.

Ken Ladouceur, the division's director of education, says he received a call from the principal of La Loche Community School shortly after 1 p.m.

CTV also quotes the community's fire chief as saying a boy with a gun is in custody.

The Dene building holds students from Grades 7 to 12.

The school says on its Facebook page that it is still in lockdown and will remain so until RCMP resolve the matter.

There is no official word on injuries.
