SAG Awards 2016 Winners: Idris Elba, 'Spotlight,' Leonardo DiCaprio, Viola Davis, 'Orange Is The New Black' And More

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to diverse TV!"

The Academy Award nominations are being eclipsed by the #OscarsSoWhite diversity controversy, but the Screen Actors Guild Awards tells a very different story with their winners circle.

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to diverse TV!" said Idris Elba, immediately after Viola Davis won a statue for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for her work on "How to Get Away With Murder."

Elba also went home a winner, picking up two trophies for his work in the Netflix film "Beasts of No Nation" and "Luther," a BBC miniseries.

But he was not alone in calling out this commotion about awards season and racial recognition or visibility.

While accepting the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series award on behalf of the cast of "Orange is the New Black," series actress Laura Prepon pointed to her co-stars and said, "look at this stage. This is what we talk about when we talk about diversity." She continued, and said her peers represented different ages, creeds, races and sexual preferences.

Other victors included Queen Latifah, who was recognized for her portrayal of the late blues singer Bessie Smith in the HBO TV movie, "Bessie." Latifah celebrated her win by doing arm curls with her trophy and encouraged fellow actors to break out of their boxes and "do you."

On the film side, top acting prizes went to Brie Larson for "Room" and Leonardo DiCaprio for "The Revenant." The "Spotlight" crew won for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, the night's highest honour, and actor Mark Ruffalo summed up the ensemble's glee by simply saying, "no way."

The SAG Awards are voted on by the actors represented by the aforementioned union. This ceremony is among the last major industry awards ceremonies before the Oscars, which will take place on Feb. 28.
