It was the sandwich, I tell you! The sandwich!

A woman who was pulled over for suspected impaired driving in Nanaimo, B.C. tried to blame it on her sandwich.

(Sigh.)

She was pulled over just after 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 25 after the RCMP received a complaint, said a Wednesday release.

Cpl. Norm Smith asked her if she'd been drinking, and she responded by trying to blame it on her food.

"Well, how much did the sandwich have to drink?" answered Smith.

In the end, the woman failed a breathalyzer test and was given a 90-day roadside prohibition.

Her car was also impounded for 30 days.

"This example is not intended to make light of impaired driving, which kills or injures hundreds of people every year," Const. Gary O'Brien said in the release.

Still, O'Brien said it was "one of the more creative" excuses the department has ever heard.
