NHL player John Scott's week just got even happier.
Scott's wife, Danielle, gave birth to two healthy twin girls in Michigan. The two, Estelle and Sofia, join Scott's older daughters, Eva and Gabrielle.
It's been a stressful month for Scott. After fans voted him captain of the NHL's Pacific Division for the All-Star Game, the league traded him from his spot as an enforcer with the Arizona Coyotes, to Montreal, who sent him to the AHL St. John's IceCaps. This was a frustrating move for John and Danielle, who was nine-months pregnant at the time.
During Sunday's game, Scott scored two goals and was named MVP. A very-pregnant Danielle was there to cheer him on, as well as daughters Eva and Gabrielle who wore jerseys that read 'Daddy' on the back.
“I jumped up when he scored his second goal and said, ‘Oh, my God, I’d better stop,'” Danielle said in an interview with Sportsnet, joking that she was afraid of triggering labour.
Scott's agent, Ben Hankinson, tweeted his congratulations to the couple on Friday morning.
Even though it's been a bittersweet time — Sunday may have been Scott's last game in the NHL — he's won plenty of support and fans' hearts. There's even a petition circulating to make Alberta-born Scott marshal for the Calgary Stampede parade.
"We've just been so overwhelmed by so much support," Danielle Scott told NPR after Sunday night's game. She added, "I'm going to tear up, even talking about it. I'm so pregnant and emotional."
For now, Scott's taking time off from the IceCaps to be with his family.
