The Toronto Star took a lot of heat on social media Sunday for a Valentine's Day cartoon poking fun at Jian Ghomeshi.
"You get me all choked up," reads the cartoon's text, above a graphic of the disgraced CBC Radio host hugging his infamous stuffed animal, Big Ears Teddy. Two of Ghomeshi's accusers said that before he allegedly choked or slapped them, he turned the toy around and said "Big Ears Teddy shouldn't see this."
The former host of "Q" is charged with four counts of sexual assault and one count of overcoming resistance by choking. The trial wrapped up this week with a verdict expected in March.
Readers took to social media to share their thoughts with the Star. Commenters on Instagram called the cartoon "trash," "disgusting," and "incredibly f***ed up."
"What a slap in the face to the women who came forward and spoke to [the Toronto Star]" one user wrote. The newspaper broke the story on the Ghomeshi allegations in 2014 with Canadaland's Jesse Brown.
Last year, the Star was criticized for another Ghomeshi cartoon, which some said blamed the women for what allegedly happened.
