New York Fashion Week has come and gone. And while the week was focused on the hottest trends for fall/winter 2016, it also means that spring is that much closer.
Last September, when the fashion shows showcased their spring/summer 2016 collections, they also set the trends for beauty and nails for the upcoming seasons. Modern takes on French manicures were seen on numerous runways, including Monique Lhuillier, Veronica Beard and Johnathan Simkhai.
Nail artist Jin Soon Choi took this trend a step further, combining the negative space trend with the modern French tip for the Tibi show:
There are two ways you can achieve this look, and you can use either an opaque or sheer base colour.
For the beginner nail artist, start with your base colour (a pale nude or pink looks best) and apply two coats. Allow to dry completely.
Once it is fully dry, use a French nail tip sticker and place it where you'd like the tips of your nails to start. Take the accent colour and paint above the sticker, leaving a small vertical stripe in the middle of your nail. Remove the sticker immediately so you are left with a crisp line.
The more advanced artist can freehand the French tip, again, leaving the vertical space blank in the middle. But whichever way you choose to paint your French tips, let the design dry for at least 10 minutes before applying a top coat.
