Two Sûreté du Québec officers handcuffed Olivier Marcotte while he was still on the ice during a game last Sunday.
Marcotte is a member of the Junior AA Hockey-Experts in Sherbrooke, Que.
He was released from police custody later the same night.
SQ Sgt. Annie Thibodeau said no complaint has been laid against the player and there will be no further action from the police unless one is filed.
Serge Campeau, the president of the Junior AA league in Mauricie-Estrie, said he didn't want to comment on the allegations before talking to the people involved directly, but added the league does not condone spitting at a referee.
The Sherbrooke team lost 9-3 to the local team in Nicolet and are eliminated from the league playoffs, meaning any suspension against Marcotte would have little impact.
Marcotte is in his final year of Junior AA eligibility.
