Dolce And Gabbana Release Offensive 'Slave' Sandal

News flash: It's not.

Just when we thought Dolce & Gabbana had put its past of cultural misunderstandings (like, you know, making remarks about same sex families and in vitro fertilization) behind them, they're back at it again.

The latest mishap? The "Slave Sandal."

Part of the spring 2016 collection, "A Declaration of Love to Italy," the "Slave Sandal In Napa Leather With Pompoms" is listed for $2,395 on D&G's e-commerce website and features "'Sicilian Cartwheel' appliques such as multicoloured pompoms, mirrors, gold passementerie, crystals and metal filigree elements."

And with that, we all say, "WHAT?"

Other retailers, including Saks Fifth Avenue and Moda Operandi, opted to not go with the term and went for more suitable description of the shoe.

Saks calls it the "Pom-Pom Leather Lace-Up Sandal," whereas Moda lists it as "Pom Pom Wrap Around Sandal."

And with that and all the backlash coming their way, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, who just put on a beautiful fall 2016 show at Paris Fashion Week inspired by Disney, have already done the inevitable and changed the name of the sandal to: "Decorative Flat Sandal In Napa Leather With Pompoms."

As pointed out by Footwear News, a "slave" sandal is a "description for a particular lace-up shoe silhouette," but now, it's "widely-preferred description" is the "gladiator sandal."

What is weird to us is, in the description, the style of the shoe is described as "The Bianca flat sandal." So where the idea to put "slave" in the head of the item is beyond us.

D&G, we want to believe in you (especially with the release of a Hijab and Abayas line), but you just make it so very hard.
