Spring Beauty Trends 2016: The Makeup Looks You Need To Try ASAP

From baby-doll lashes to graphic eyes, we've got you covered.

Seasonal beauty perceptions are a weird thing.

When we think of winter, we usually associate our beauty look with heavily-lined eyes, burgundy lips and bushy brows. Colder, darker days come with more dramatic makeup with hints of edge.

But as spring approaches and the sun shines a little brighter and longer, we give our makeup game a little refresher. Suddenly we embrace nude hues, brush bronzer onto our cheeks and allow our eyelashes to flutter, sans eye shadow.

And while we'll definitely be embracing our inner glowing godesses this spring, we're also planning on bringing that edginess we rocked in the winter. Yes, everyone, it's time to break the typical spring makeup rules with bold metallic, graphic eyes and amped lips.

Ready to think outside the beauty box? Take a look at the spring 2016 makeup trends you need to know about.

Forget Paris, the hottest new beauty destination this season is outer space. Okay, not really, BUT metallics, chromes and jewel tones are going to be landing in your beauty bag this spring, and thanks to their foil-like finishes, these metallic pigments are perfect for making a bold statement.

Feeling blue? You should be, because it's the colour that's going to take over your spring makeup routine. Blue, when applied around the eyes, has the ability to make your peepers pop, which is a major win.

Last spring, the nude lip was the talk of the town. But this year, it's time to move on to bigger and bolder things. We're talking deep reds and youthful pastel shades. Multi-dimensional lips are also in. This means the layering of colours to create a textured look with a darker shade around the lip line and a softer colour in the middle of the lip.

It's time to ditch the heavy foundation and go glossy this spring. Embrace your skin's shine and play up glossy cheekbones and under eyes. This can be as simple as sprucing the skin with BB cream or taking Vaseline and working it into the apples of your cheeks.

Yes, we all love a good cat eye, but spring is the time to try something new. Featuring architectural lines with pop art drama, the graphic eye is moving away from traditional eyeliner shapes and using the whole base of the eye as the canvas.

It's time to embrace raw beauty, and it all begins with our skincare. Before your minimal makeup application (different than one of our favourite trends, no makeup-makeup), prep the skin by exfoliating, toning and moisturizing, bringing the skin's natural finesse to the forefront.

As Pat McGrath puts it, the tonal trend is "playing up the face with tones that harmonize with the completion of the face." The tones, which tend to be monochromatic, should seamlessly blend into the face's bone structure. Create neutral eye shadows or even define cheekbones and lower lashes.

The moment when you're so fabulous you cry glitter. It's true, guys. Glitter tears are in. From Elle Fanning to Suki Waterhouse, glitter beneath the eyes is a romantic, elegant and dreamy look that we're hoping sticks around all year long.

Enter spring with wide-eyes this season (literally). Sure, clumpy mascara isn't usually ideal, but take advantage of what's in your tube by creating doe-eyed lashes that are playful and lifted. The key to the look is to have the lashes fan out.
