FAIRVIEW, Alta. — An 18-year-old man was shot at a college parking lot in northwestern Alberta Sunday night.

RCMP Sgt. Jack Poitras said the man was wounded at the Fairview campus of Grande Prairie Regional College.

"One person was out of the vehicle. The second vehicle showed up and started shooting at the other vehicle in the parking lot area,'' Poitras said Monday.

"As a result the subject that was out of the vehicle was injured.''

The man was in critical condition and was being treated at an Edmonton hospital.

RCMP said classes were not in session at the time.

"I think it was just a coincidence that these people were there last night,'' Poitras said.

Officers located the suspect vehicle and gave chase but called off their pursuit for public safety reasons.

No one has been arrested.
