Car Gets Stuck On TTC Streetcar Tracks After Driving Into Tunnel

"At some point, you'd think the driver would have said, 'Hmm, this ain't right.'"

There are several tunnels in Toronto designated for streetcars only, and if you're a driver, there's a reason for that.

For whatever reason, the driver of a grey SUV tried to get through a streetcar tunnel near Union Station at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, according to BlogTO.

Brad Ross, the TTC's head of communications, tweeted a photo of what happened next.

Ross said it wasn't until 2:30 p.m. — 10 hours later — that TTC service resumed.

He said the SUV was registered in Alberta (where vehicles are not required to have license plates on both the front and back of vehicles) and the driver took off.

But as one Twitter user pointed out, even if you're from out of town, there are plenty of warnings.

Last July, a woman got her car stuck in the same tunnel, and told Toronto police she didn't see the warning signs.
