It’s been over 100 years since the Underdahls welcomed a baby girl into their family. But on April 12, the birth of Aurelia Marie Ann broke their 101-year long streak of boys.
Idaho mom Ashton Underdahl didn’t find out she was having a girl until halfway through her pregnancy. Before that, she just assumed she was having a son because of her husband Scott’s family history of boys.
However, it wasn’t until Ashton’s father-in-law did some research that they found out just how far back the Underdahl’s history of boys went. According to KREM2, the family has not welcomed a girl since 1914, when Scott’s great-great aunt Bernice was born.
Four generations and seven boys later, the family welcomed Aurelia, who was born weighing eight pounds, three ounces, the Coeur d’Alene Press reports. The baby girl is the second child for Ashton and Scott, who already have a 22-month-old son named Archer.
“Maybe it took more than 100 years to create perfection.”
According to Ashton, her husband was in shock after discovering they were expecting a daughter, so much so that he remained skeptical up until her birth earlier this month.
“He was like, ‘Really? Really? Are you sure?’” she told KHQ. “He kept thinking, even though we were in the delivery room, he's like, ‘What if they made a mistake and it's been a boy all along?’”
Now that their baby girl is here, the family can’t stop gushing about her.
“Maybe it took more than 100 years to create perfection,” Aurelia’s proud grandfather, Conrad, told the Coeur d’Alene Press. “She's a cutie. We've been spoiling her a bit because it's just different finally holding a baby girl.”
Surprisingly, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard of a family having a long history of boys. Back in 2014, Poppy Silverton was the first girl to be born to her family since 1913, marking the end of another 101-long streak of boys.
