Separate workplace accidents in Alberta in a single day have killed two people.
Calgary-based Pembina Pipeline Corp., confirms that a contractor died yesterday afternoon at one of its facilities near Redwater, northeast of Edmonton.
The company has not released any details, but Occupational Health and Safety tells Global News that a worker was wearing an air mask and using an air tank while doing maintenance on a tower when co-workers noticed he was in distress.
They brought him down but he died at the scene.
Earlier in the day, a man was fatally injured when he was struck by a piece of equipment at the Nova Chemicals PE1 Expansion Project in Joffre in central Alberta.
He died in the Red Deer hospital.
Investigations involving OHS and both companies are underway. (The Canadian Press, Global)
