Castle-Like Home In Kingston Area Sold For Less Than The Cost Of A Toronto Home

You might say it could make you the king of Kingston. *Wah-wah*

People who feel dejected that they can't afford a home in Toronto can take heart — and then move to the Kingston area.

There, you can live like royalty for about the same amount you'd spend to settle in the 6ix.

A castle-like home in Inverary, Ont. — about 20 kilometres from Kingston — sold for $660,000 to a Toronto couple on Wednesday, The Toronto Star reported.

Kingston-Area Castle Sells For Less Than A Toronto Home

The 3,500-sq.-ft. estate has three levels, four bedrooms, and over 600 metres of shore space along the Rideau River.

There's also an elevator, stone walls, wood-burning fireplaces, and wood flooring throughout.

Outside grounds have open fields and trails that are great for ATVs, according to the property listing.

The Toronto couple's bid was one of 13 submitted in the Wednesday auction that was "right down to the wire," said Manson Slik, a real estate broker with Gordon's Estate Service, which handled the sale.

Previous owners Jacqueline and Dieter Finkeldey initially hoped to sell the house for around $800,000 — its assessed value — but said they're happy with the results.

The new owners plan on using the castle as a vacation property before retiring there.

The castle is a bargain by Toronto standards — the average home price in the 6ix was $688,181 in March.

In other words, these new castle owners are living like royalty — for less than the cost of a semi-detached home in the big city.
