Veteran Soap Star Kirsten Storms Announces She's Taking A Break From TV Over 'Skin Issues'

Kirsten Storms has played Maxie Jones since 2005.

Daytime television star Kirsten Storms is taking a break as Maxie Jones on the legendary soap opera "General Hospital" due to skin issues.

Over the weekend, the former Disney channel star took to Twitter to announce she's "taking a little break from work due to some skin issues" she's been having, all while thanking fans for their outpour of love and support.

"My dr's [sic] say my breakouts are due to stress, but shouldn't take too long to get under control (I can say that I'm on the better end of it now)," she wrote in a note posted to her social media networks. "However, it was becoming too difficult for GH to cover up. And we all know in this biz appearance is important."

The decision to leave her role comes weeks after Storms split from her husband, co-star Brandon Barash. The pair have one daughter together, two-year-old Harper.

Also acknowledged in the note is Molly Burnett of "Days of Our Lives" who will temporarily replace Storms as Maxie Jones, whom she has played since 2005.

On Facebook, fans of the actress are having their say on how they wished the ABC Daytime television show handled the decision. Rather than trying to edit out the flaws, many have suggested the crew written the skin issue into the script.

"It would've been great if the writers could've written that into the story line to promote awareness of a condition that many people deal with. You will definitely be missed. Get well and hurry back, Kirsten Storms!" one commentor wrote.

"They are blowing a great op to help young people dealing with the same problem & boosting their ratings at the same time!!" Another wrote. "Very proud of you Kirsten for being so open & maybe it will help someone along the way with the same problem!"

But don't worry, soap fans. Storms won't be gone for long.

"In the meantime, I look forward to watching Molly on screen as I take the next few weeks to heal," she announced. "Again - thanks for the love and you will see me again in no time!"
