Florida Alligator Stuns Onlookers As It Strolls Through Golf Course

"I didn't know if we were being punked or something," said the golfer who took a video.

Thank goodness one golfer took a video of this alligator strolling through a Florida course β€” now we know where to never, ever go.

Charles Helms posted footage of the gigantic reptile, which he and a friend guessed was at least more than four metres (14 to 15 feet) long, to Facebook last week, not even sure if it was real.

"I was stunned and silent," he told ABC Action News.

"I didn't know if we were being punked or something."

In the video, Helms can be heard wondering if the reptile is actually two men in a suit.

A clerk at the Buffalo Creek Golf Course pro shop in Palmetto told News 3 that the gator has hung around the course for years, and that people come specifically to see it.

"He doesn't bother anybody and they don't bother him, he's like a mascot for the course, which is owned by Manatee County," said Wendy Schofield.

A similarly huge specimen was spotted on a golf course last spring in Englewood, Fla.

Alligators also showed up in the news in a more gruesome way recently. Police in south Florida found two eating a human body Monday, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
