Messages between two men accused in the killing of a Calgary teen insinuate a stabbing death, a court heard on Monday.
Franz Cabrera, Jordan Liao, Joch Pouk and Assmar Shlah are currently on trial for the second-degree murder of 18-year-old Lukas Strasser-Hird.
Nathan Paul Gervais is charged with first-degree murder in the case, but disappeared from house arrest weeks before the trial's start and remains missing.
A digital data-retrieval expert introduced text messages between Franz Cabrera and Nathan Paul Gervais in court on Monday.
CBC News shared a transcript of the texts:
3:46 a.m.: "Bro I stabed (sic) someone for Asmar and he got arrested."
3:52 a.m.: "yeah, I think I killed him, I'm hiding in an alley"
4:09 a.m.: "Yeah man, I duno what to do."
Strasser-Hird was beaten and stabbed in an alley outside Calgary's now-closed Vinyl Nightclub in 2013. He died hours later in hospital.
The teen's father, Dale, says the trial has been especially difficult for his family as three of the accused are out on bail.
“It’s disgusting they’ve been let out on bail and they’re pretty much mocking our family by joking around and laughing like this is no big deal,” Hird told Global News.

An expert also testified Monday that blood matching a sample of Strasser-Hird's was found on the shoes of two of the accused, the Calgary Herald reported.
The chance of the blood matching another Caucasian male would be one in 13 trillion, according to the Herald.
