Friends and family are remembering Sara Baillie as a loving and kind mother as the search for her missing daughter enters its second day.

Baillie's coworkers knew something was wrong Monday when she failed to show up for work at Chili’s Texas Grill at the Calgary International Airport.

That evening, the 34-year-old was found dead in a rented basement suite in Panorama Hills, a northwest suburb of Calgary. An Amber Alert was issued for her five-year-old daughter Taliyah Leigh Marsman shortly after.

Neighbours, family and friends have left flowers, cards and stuffed animals in front of the home where Baillie and her daughter lived. Some items were wrapped in plastic to protect them from the rain.

A growing memorial for Sara Baillie, whose 5-year-old daughter, Taliyah Marsman, is still missing.

A daughter of one of Baillie's coworkers described her as a caring person.

“She was loving, and if something’s wrong with somebody, she would be like, there, and she would care for you, and tell you everything’s okay," Keisha Meas told 660 News.

Meas often babysat Marsman, who she described as a "little sister" to her, according to the Calgary Herald.

“She laughs a lot and gives lots of hugs,” Meas said.

Last seen carrying a suitcase

On Wednesday, police released footage of Baillie and Marsman speaking with a family at a Dairy Queen.

A girl matching Marsman’s description was seen with a stocky, black male, near Baillie's home on Panamount Boulevard around 11:30 Monday morning, according to police. The girl was wearing red or pink boots with white polka dots and was carrying a reddish-coloured suitcase.

Friends and family of Baillie tearfully addressed the public at a news conference Tuesday. Sara's uncle issued a plea for Marsman's return.

"Sara was a beautiful young woman who was single-handedly, pretty much, raising her daughter," Hamilton told media at the police news conference.

"Taliyah was Sara's world — still is... Sara was a hard-working single mother."

Over the past few months, Baillie shared photos and videos of Marsman on Facebook — reading, playing soccer, attending the Calgary Stampede.

"She fills my heart with so much joy," Baillie wrote on one of the posts.

Police have yet to release Baillie's cause of death, but say they are investigating it as a homicide. An autopsy was scheduled to be conducted on Tuesday, but the results have not yet been released.

Anyone with information relating to Taliyah's disappearance is asked to call police.
