Abbotsford Girls Suspected Of Being Drugged: Police

Abbotsford Girls Found Wandering Might Have Been Drugged: Police

Police in B.C. are investigating an alarming situation where two teen girls appear to have been drugged.

Last weekend, Good Samaritans spotted a 16-year-old girl, who appeared upset and intoxicated, on the side of the road in Abbotsford, said a police news release on Thursday.

They dropped her off at home, and called authorities.

The girl and her 14-year-old friend had gone out earlier in the evening but got separated. The teen was unclear on many of the events that occurred that night.

One of the girl’s parents went looking for the 14-year-old friend and located her nearby, said police.

Signs of 'date rape' drug

"She also appeared intoxicated and showed symptoms indicative of GHB (Gamma Hydroxybutyrate) consumption," said a statement from Const. Ian MacDonald.

GHB is commonly known as the "date rape" drug because it sedates victims, prevents them from resisting sexual assaults, and causes short-term memory loss, according to Health Canada.

Both teens were treated in hospital and released.

Police said the girls were in the area of the Matsqui Recreation Centre and skateboard park between 11 p.m. on July 31 and 1 a.m. on July 31. An investigation remains ongoing.

Investigators hope to speak with the Good Samaritans who helped get the 16-year-old girl home, as well as anyone who has further information.
