CANMORE, Alta. — RCMP are searching for a missing BASE jumper in a mountainous area west of Calgary.

Police say a man was planning to jump off of a mountain outside of Canmore on Saturday.

When he failed to return home police and others starting looking for him.

RCMP are asking anyone who may have seen a parachute on Saturday or picked up a hitchhiker in the area to call police.

BASE jumping is when a person jumps from a fixed structure or cliff using a parachute or wingsuit.

It's considered more dangerous than skydiving due to the relatively low altitude of the jumps.
