A Breakdown Of Rihanna's 2016 MTV VMAs Outfits: The Good, The Better, The Best

Real talk: Sunday evening's 2016 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) was pretty much the Rihanna show.

Yes, there was an epic surprise performance from Beyonce (and not to mention that killer white carpet entrance with Blue Ivy, Winnie Harlow and the "mothers of the movement," but at the end of the day, it was Bad Gal RiRi's world, and we were all just (blessed to be) living in it.

As the recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, the 28-year-old Bajan songstress gave four separate performances throughout the show, and was presented with her Moon Man by none other than Drake (but more on that later). And obviously, each performance featured killer outfits that, despite having a different feel to each, were all uniquely Rihanna.

So behold, a breakdown of all of Rih's 2016 MTV VMA outfits:

1. The bubblegum pink chaps

rihanna

The "Work" singer has proved time and time again that chaps are not just for cowboys (though she did design an insane Western-inspired pair that was tres fashun), and her first performance outfit was just further confirmation.

Of course, these chaps (which, according to People, is a collab between RiRi and Hood by Air) were anything but ordinary, featuring knee-hole cutouts (presumably for easier twerking) and plenty of zipper details.

The W Magazine cover gal paired the eccentric boots with a matching corset with arm sleeves (not worn on her arms, obviously) and a T-shirt style bodysuit which you can buy here ... but if you want to channel Rih, you'll have to dye it pink, just like she did. Red sunglasses by Cutler and Gross and furry Comme des Garcons sneakers completed the athletic/girly, yet still badass look.

On to the next...

2. The furry bra and durag combo

rihanna

In keeping with the fur theme, Rihanna wore a fur-trimmed bra with leather joggers, heels and a durag for her second performance. She also somehow managed to twist a simple white T-shirt into a crop top/hoodie ... if anyone can figure out how this is one, please let us know because we are confused (kthnx).

Basically, this whole ensemble went wth the dancehall vibe of this performance, which included Rih singing and twerking to "Work," "Rude Boy and "What's My Name?".

Also, those army green fishnet tights worn underneath are a nice touch.

3. The Vetements boots and fur stole outfit

rihanna

We think Robyn Fenty is one of the very few celebrities who can get away with a garment repeat without being called out by the tabloids. Case in point? These killer Manolo Blahnik x Vetements thigh-high boots, which Rih previously wore to OVO Fest in Toronto (okay, they were metallic orange that time, but you get the picture).

This time around, the "Needed Me" singer wore the footwear with a black, long-sleeved bodysuit, with big, '80s-style shoulders. The brooch and the purple fur stole (face intact) kind of gave it grandma vibes, as did the embellished velvet Juicy Couture gloves, but again, the bling and the mullet hairstyle made it totally modern (ironic, we know).

4. The badass princess queen ballgown

rihanna

For her final performance consisting of insane vocals of ballads like "Stay" and "Love On the Brain," our girl wore a ballgown that screamed RIHANNA. The haute couture design by Alexandre Vauthier had a military feel thanks to the collar, baggy sleeves and grommet belt, but was still glamorous and stunning nonetheless. This ballgown isn't fit for a princess, it's made for a QUEEN.

Also, as promised, let's get back to that Drake moment. You know, the one where he randomly showed up on stage looking dapper in a tux, and professed his love for Rihanna while presenting her with the Vanguard award. And even though RiRi may have friendzoned the 6ix god in front of the whole world, we're still rooting for #AubRih. Because seriously, look how cute!

Oh, and let's just throw in Rihanna's after-show outfit for kicks, because obviously she slayed, yet again.
