Zendaya Claims She Was Refused Gift Cards Because Of Her Skin Tone

She used Snapchat to document the experience.

Zendaya claims she was a victim of racial profiling this past Tuesday, and shared her unfortunate experience on Snapchat.

On Tuesday, the 20-year-old actress tried to purchase US$400 worth of gift cards at a Vons supermarket, but was allegedly denied by the store clerk, according to Cosmopolitan.

“The lady that was helping us, I don’t think she was a huge fan of our skin tone,” Zendaya shared in her Snap video.

She continued, "In fact, I recall her not trying to help us at all, saying that we couldn't buy the gift cards, and then throwing my wallet. Can't make this shit up. I just can't make this shit up...This is what we deal with."

"Because we’re black," her friend added.

Zendaya later added that a manager eventually helped her buy the cards, according to People.

The Los Angeles Times reported on Wednesday that a rep for the store's parent company, Safeway, would be issuing a response shortly.

But this isn't the first time the "Spider-Man: Revolution" star has dealt with issues associated to her race.

Last year, E! on-air personality Giuliana Rancic caught some serious backlash for stating that the multi-talented artist looked like she smelled of marijuana and patchouli oil when she wore faux locs to the Oscars. And in June, Zendaya revealed to Cosmo that she fired her publicist for being racially insensitive.

Not cool.
