Dying Dog Lives Long Enough To See His Beloved Owner Get Married

Grab the tissues.

When Kelly O’Connell got engaged to James Garvin, she knew she wanted her beloved black labrador by her side on her wedding day.

Sadly, however, 15-year-old Charlie Bear was diagnosed with a brain tumour after suffering from a seizure during a walk last April. Despite his illness, Charlie Bear was still able to follow his person down the aisle and watch her take her vows. But walk seemed to take a toll on the pup who needed to be carried back by the bride's sister and maid of honor, Katie O’Connell after the ceremony.

“I think everyone was a little bit shocked. Katie is a tiny woman and Charlie is an 80-pound dog, but there was no way she was going to leave him there,” wedding photographer Jen Dziuvenis told CBS News. “Everyone was crying. Kelly just kept saying, ‘You made it buddy! You’re here!’ It was one of the sweetest things I’ve ever seen. It was probably one of the sweetest things any of us have ever seen.”

A little over a week after the nuptials, Charlie Bear was put down at home surrounded by family in front of the couple's fireplace.

Charlie Bear was only 12 weeks old when O'Connell adopted him from the animal shelter she was working at while studying to become a veterinarian, 10 TV reports.
