Style Rescue: All Of The Must-Have Boots For Fall

Warning: you're going to want them all.

Fall is here and we couldn't be happier to say goodbye to broken flip-flops and chafing sandal straps. And if there's one item you invest in this fall, let it be a good pair of boots (or two).

Dressing for the fluctuating fall temperatures can be tough, but get yourself a great pair of boots and you'll be able to adjust your wardrobe with ease. Whether you want to make that summer dress more seasonally appropriate, or your distressed denim even more rock 'n' roll, the right pair boots can take care of it all.

From this season's biggest trends to finding the right fit (calves, we're looking at you), here's our fall boot guide:

We love a riding boot paired with skinny jeans or knee socks. If you struggle to find boots that fit your calves, look for boots with a fabric backing, as this will allow for more stretch and comfort. And here's a great styling tip: matching the colour of your boots to the colour of your pants will create a long, clean line. Arguably the most versatile, the brown riding boot is worth investing in, because you'll wear them again and again. We love these riding boots from Browns ($398).

Instantly sexy, the thigh-high boot has come a long way since "Pretty Woman." We love these boots paired with tunics and shorter skirts. Be sure to give a little space between your dress and the boot, as this will help make you look taller and leaner. We love these faux suede OTK boots from Aldo ($110) with their lace-up detailing in the back to help encourage that perfect fit. Wear alone or with a pair with tights in a similar hue.

If you're looking for an everyday weatherproof boot that you can wear with all your casual looks (or on your way to work), we suggest the Chelsea boot. This boot is also a great option if you struggle to fit your calves. They slip on with ease and keep your feet dry no matter what you encounter on your trek to work. Opt for a pair in a patent leather to instantly glam up your look. We love these Doc Martens from SoftMoc ($179.99).

If you're looking for a bootie to wear with distressed denim, tights and skirts, the ankle boot is a great go-to. In my opinion, the only style faux pas when it comes to ankle boots is when they're paired with tights and there's a slight peek-a-boo of ankle. If your ankles are exposed, make sure it looks purposeful by rolling up your jeans or trousers. We suggest these burgundy beauties from Shoeme.ca ($330) that will pair perfectly with all those pastel knits you'll be wearing this fall.

Maybe you're not quite ready to stop showing off that beautiful pedi, in which case you should opt for the shootie. The perfect hybrid between a shoe and a boot, these peek-a-boo style boots can inject a lot of fun into an outfit. Our favourites are these blush pink shooties from Geox.

We get that you want to keep your feet dry but you still want to look cute. Luckily, weatherproof boots have seriously come a long way, and we now have a plethora of stylish options. Made popular by festival fashion, we love tall rubber boots for all that splashes back at us when we're trudging to the office or catching a streetcar to brunch on a rainy Sunday morning. We love this lilac Hunter boot from SoftMoc ($169) for a fun twist. They are available in a variety of styles and heights.

Metallic boots are the perfect fall statement piece that will add a touch of glamour to any look. And they aren't just for the nighttime either — we're seeing a lot of metallic styled for the day. Stylist tip: always use metallic in small doses. We love these silver booties from ASOS ($79.78).
