Thanksgiving dinner isn't complete without a slice of pie!

Note: This story has been updated.

It’s pumpkin spice season, so to celebrate we’re taking a look at the O.G. pumpkin spice concoction: pumpkin pie.

The classic Thanksgiving pie was first made in the early 1620s when settlers were believed to have made stewed pumpkins by filling a hollowed out shell with milk, honey and spices before baking it on an open fire.

These days pumpkin pie can be made in a variety of ways. Below, we rounded some of our favourite Thanksgiving pumpkin pie recipes. From chocolate pies to boozy pies and even pies with fruit, the pumpkin pies on this list are a mix of classic and creative.

If you’re a traditionalist, Chowhound says the easiest way to make pumpkin pie is to combine a can of pumpkin puree with a can of sweetened condensed milk, 2 large eggs, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1/2 teaspoon fine salt and 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves. This mixture can then be added to a pre-made crust or a homemade crust, or can be served crustless.
