Americans Searched Canadian Jobs Like Crazy During Trump's Rise

If you're moving to Canada, there will be competition.

American fleeing Donald Trump may find themselves competing for jobs if they move to Canada.

U.S. searches for Canadian employment spiked this year — up 58 per cent from 2015, said a news release from Monster Worldwide on Wednesday.

The website saw just over 30,000 job searches with the keyword "Canada" from January to October of 2016.

It only saw about 19,600 for the entirety of last year.

Ontario is drawing more American job seekers than any other province, with 7,500. Of those people, more than 3,000 are looking for work in Toronto.

Alberta came second, B.C. third, Quebec fourth and New Brunswick fifth.

Toronto had the most job postings, coming in at around 39,300, Monster said. Montreal followed with about 25,400 opportunities.

Engineer ranked as the top job that Americans searched for, with over 2,000 seeking work as civil, mechanical, chemical or software engineers.

Information and technology jobs ranked second, with approximately 1,200 people looking for jobs as Java developers, net developers, web developers and network administrators.

Financial jobs such as accountant, clerk or banker came third.

Job-seeking Americans aren't alone in wanting to move to Canada if Trump were to win the White House.

On Monday, "Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston said he would move north if Trump was elected. The actor joins celebrities such as Lena Dunham, Whoopi Goldberg, and Barbra Streisand.
