Calgary Real Estate Agent Gary Fayerman Roasted For Remembrance Day Ad

The Calgary agent said he made a "stupid and ridiculous" decision and has since apologized profusely.

A Calgary real estate agent is hanging his head in shame after running an insensitive ad referencing Remembrance Day.

"November is a month to remember. Remember when prices were this low?" reads the ad, taken out by RE/MAX agent Gary Fayerman in a recent Chinook Park, Kelvin Grove and Eagle Ridge (CKE) Community newsletter.

The ad features a photo of a soldier's helmet on the Tomb of the Unknown Solider surrounded by poppies, with two real estate listings below.

Reaction to the ad came quickly, with many on social media calling Fayerman out for insensitivity.

He has since apologized, telling the Calgary Herald his decision to run the ad "was stupid and ridiculous...I’ve retracted the ad and I’m very remorseful. I do apologize immensely. It was careless thinking."

He also said he is making a donation to Wounded Warriors and will coordinate the Veterans' Food Bank drive.

On one of several apologetic Facebook posts, people seemed receptive to Fayerman's remorse.

"Lousy ad but you've made amends and apologized. I'm an ex-service member. I consider this matter closed and people should now move on," wrote Ethan Georges.

"I'll join the ranks here and admit, as a descendant of veterans, the wife of a veteran, and a veteran myself, I was hurt by this ad. However, it's a wise man who admits to his faults, and an even wiser man who learns and grows from his errors. Apology accepted," agreed Kristy Reimers-Loader.
