A Lethbridge woman who suffered a vicious random attack in September is starting to communicate with her family.
The woman, who was put into a medically induced coma after the attack, is now able to communicate with nods, gestures, and some words, her family wrote in a Facebook post.
"How blessed are we?!! We get to see her beautiful eyes, hear her voice and also her wonderful giggles," reads the Nov. 2 post.
A Nov. 3 update says the woman still suffers from sporadic memory, but "is slowly remembering a little more." Her family also says her first speech therapy session went "very well."
She is out of the intensive care unit after coming out of the coma in late October.
The 25-year-old woman was approached by a stranger early on the morning of Sept. 30 while walking to work. A man allegedly struck her with a weapon before dragging her into an alley, where she was later discovered by a passerby.
Investigators have said that items found close to the alleged victim had earlier been stolen from a nearby garage, where a homeowner found a man sleeping inside.
Denzel Dre Colton Bird, 20, is facing charges that include attempted murder and aggravated sexual assault.
