LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – A 59-year-old man has been charged with breaking into a house in Lethbridge, Alta., and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in her bedroom.

Police are calling the Monday morning attack a random crime.

In a news release, police say they got a 911 call at about 5:14 a.m. and multiple officers responded and cordoned off the area.

They say an arrest was made less than 15 minutes later.

Police believe a suspect gained entry through a basement door sometime between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m.

They say he took steps to prevent the girl from screaming and waking up the other members of her family.

Darral Gerard Courtoreille has been charged with housebreaking, sexual assault and sexual interference.
