Kate McKinnon SNL Cold Opening Stuns With "Hallelujah"

No words.

"Saturday Night Live" punctuated the U.S. election with sharp, funny, and ironic comedy sketches. It decided to take a more sombre turn in the first show since Donald Trump's presidential victory.

Kate McKinnon reprised her Hillary Clinton character, dressed in a cream pantsuit, but this time seated at a piano.

Then she put a voice to how millions of people have felt this week. (Watch the video above.)

Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night.

In three minutes, McKinnon's "Hallelujah" brought into focus a broken nation, a search for answers and a yearning for change, while at the same time paying tribute to the recent passing of legendary Canadian artist Leonard Cohen who wrote the song.

It wasn't funny.

It was perfect.
