American Music Awards 2016: Holiday Inspo From The Night's Best Dressed

Don't know what you're going to wear to that office holiday party? Let these stars give you some ideas.

In a year jam-packed with award shows, we particularly love the American Music Awards.

The AMAs is one of our favourite events on the calendar because one, it brings out the biggest stars (read: Gigi Hadid, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, just to name a few). Two, it delivers the best fashion (read: Prada, Elie Saab, Roberto Cavalli). And three, it's one of the last award shows before the holiday season (read: thank goodness).

Since the 2016 AMAs are one of the last hoorahs in show biz for the year, it's the perfect televised event to get you feeling excited about that office Christmas party coming up. Sunday evening's red carpet proved to be the place to scope out major inspo for your holiday #OOTD, whether it was in the form of a glittering playsuit or a white pant suit.

Now check out the holiday's hottest looks as modelled by Hollywood's It girls at the 2016 American Music Awards. And get ready to grab your credit card and run to the mall:

Wearing a lace ensemble whiter than winter snow, Hadid, this year's AMA host, looked stunning in her off-the-shoulder sheer gown by Roberto Cavalli, which she paired with a silver choker and slicked back 'do.

Holiday tip: Even though the temperatures have dropped, don't be afraid to flaunt your cold shoulder in a baring top. It's a gorgeous way to show off some skin without being too revealing.

Selena Gomez made her return to the spotlight wearing a dramatic floor-length Prada gown with a parted low ponytail and shimmering drop earrings.

Holiday tip: Nothing says the holidays like a classic red gown. It's a bold colour that is sure to land you on the best dressed list.

Shining bright in a bedazzled turquoise playsuit with a deep plunging neckline and belted waist, Hailee Steinfeld is definitely one of our faves from the AMA red carpet.

Holiday tip: The closer we creep to New Year's Eve, the more glitter hunger we get! This little Elie Saab number in particular is fantastic for the festive season with its starry motif and emerald shine.

Lady Gaga looks like a total boss in this Brandon Maxwell suit with a plunging neckline and wide flared pant.

Holiday tip: You can never go wrong with a sleek white suit. This oh-so-feminine look with a masculine twist screams elegance. And if you're feeling fancy, do what Lady Gaga did and pair your suit with a matching hat.

Janelle Monae oozes old Hollywood glamour in this Marc Jacobs coat and paneled lace mini dress. And can we just say her hair and soft pink lip are perfection?

Holiday tip: Throwing an oversized coat over your shoulders is an easy way to make your #OOTD that much fancier. And, of course, it will keep you warm and toasty as you sip your hot cocoa (or mulled wine) by the open fire.

Canadian babe Nina Dobrev stunned in a embellished Zuhair Murad short suit with a black corset peeking through. The former "Degrassi" star topped off her look with a side braid and shimmering blue eyeshadow.

Holiday tip: It's all about the embellished blazer, fashionistas! It's a great staple to have in your wardrobe for those festive family gatherings and fancy Christmas potlucks with the pals. If you can find a matching pair of shorts like Nina did, your holiday look is definitely complete.

Love Ariana's lingerie top? It's vintage (the stars, they vintage shop just like us!) and she pairs it beautifully with high-waisted Alexander McQueen pants and a silver choker. And of course, Grande's legendary ponytail is intact.

Holiday tip? Lingerie-inspired fashion continues to be a hot trend this season. It's romantic, fierce and totally sexy. Double your silky separates as fancy tops and pair them with killer tailored trousers for a chic and classy look to ring in the new year.

SLAY! Taraji looks incredible in a minimal, crisp Celine button-down that is gorgeously paired with a lacy black bra and gold Jimmy Choo sandals.

Holiday tip? Never underestimate the chicness of a button-down. Sure, a shirt dress may be a little chilly for the winter's blistering cold, but it's perfect for all those Christmas parties you're going to get invited to.
