Michelle Rempel's Letter From 'Creepy Weirdo' Shows What Women Politicians Face

This is gross.

A creepy letter to an Alberta MP is the latest display of misogyny rearing its ugly head for women in politics.

Calgary Nose Hill MP Michelle Rempel tweeted an anonymous letter sent to her office that made demeaning comments about her appearance, and criticized the way she dressed in the House of Commons.

Rempel said that while she doesn't normally tweet this kind of letter, she receives them on a weekly basis.

She said last week, someone sent her a marriage proposal, as a way of keeping her "in line."

Rempel said that regardless of political affiliation, this shouldn't be happening.

Has spoken out about sexism before

In April, Rempel wrote an op-ed for the National Post about the "everyday sexism" she has faced since she was first elected in 2011.

She said she has endured comments about her fertility, her appearance, and assumptions about how she has achieved success as an MP.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he was listening to Rempel's complaints.

The Huffington Post Canada has reached out to Rempel's office for comment.
