Tweets From Aleppo Show What's Actually Happening On The Ground

Many were tweeting videos amid the destruction.

Aleppo's residents may be fleeing for their lives, but many are still taking a few minutes to make sure the world knows exactly what is happening to them.

A ceasefire collapsed Wednesday as pro-government forces bombed the last rebel-held portions of Aleppo, threatening the evacuation of tens of thousands of residents.

Activists, journalists, and ordinary citizens are tweeting updates from the besieged Syrian city. Many shared videos of themselves amid the destruction.

Activist Lina Shamy posted a video announcing the ceasefire had been broken.

Bana Alabed and her mom Fatemah, who have been regularly posting updates about the conflict, tweeted about the bombing over the past few days.

Aleppo resident Salah Ashkar tweeted updates while fleeing his building.

Journalists and filmmakers also showed glimpses of the destruction.

On Wednesday, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power said the Syrian government, Russia, and Iran are responsible for placing a "noose" around residents.

In a security council address, she asked the three nations, "Is there no execution of a child that gets under your skin? Is there literally nothing that shames you?"

Eastern Aleppo head of forensics Mohammed Abu Jaafar told The Associated Press government forces had started to target areas where civilians had gathered to evacuate.
