Halle Berry Opens Up About Her 3 Divorces

"I’m kind of anti–fairy tales today."

Recently divorced for the third time, actress Halle Berry admits she felt "huge failure and huge disappointment" when her marriages fell apart.

“[As] women, we go into marriage thinking it’s going to last forever and that this is our prince on a shiny horse. That’s what fairy tales taught me as a kid... and I’m kind of anti–fairy tales today,” Berry confessed at the 2017 City Summit and Gala in Los Angeles on Saturday.

The Oscar winner finalized her divorce from fellow actor Olivier Martinez in December. The couple, who were married for two years, have one son together. Prior to that relationship, Berry, 50, was in a long-term relationship with model Gabriel Aubry with whom she has a daughter, Nahla, though the two never married.

“I’ve often felt guilty and responsible. I’ve suffered a lot of pain and anguish,” "The Call" actress continued.

Berry was also married to baseball player David Justice from 1992 to 1997 and singer Eric Benét from 2001 to 2005.

When Berry and Martinez announced their plan to divorce in 2015, Justice took to Twitter with harsh words for his ex: "Yup..Me,Eric,Gabriel and Olivier were all her 'Knight in Shining Armor',until it ends..Then we all become the worst guys in history," he wrote in a tweet that has since been deleted.

Benét backed up the athlete tweeting "My man at @23davidjustice is tweeting some truth dis' mornin'!"

Justice later apologized for the tweets saying he never intended to bash the "Monster's Ball" star.

Though Berry lost her faith in fairy tales, the actress has found a new perspective. “In every one of those situations, as hard — and sometimes embarrassing — as it was, I learned so much about myself,” she said. “Those relationships provided me with lessons that got me to where I am right now. For that, I’m grateful. But it has been hard. It’s been a difficult part of my life.”

And Berry hopes those lessons are being passed down to her kids Nahla and Maceo. “I say lots of things, but I think what’s more important is that my children watch what I do," she said. "I’m more mindful of how I live my life and what they see me do.”
