Twitter is the place to be when you're watching any live event at home. And with the 2017 Oscars taking place on Sunday, the social media platform is already in full swing in anticipation of Hollywood's biggest night of the year.
The hashtag #OscarsWeNeed emerged earlier this week to commemorate all the categories Twitter users wished the Academy would include — and it's on point.
From "awards" such as Best Outstanding Background Extra, Best Meryl Streep and Worst Use of Diverse Casting, there are categories that will make you laugh, cry and even give the awards ceremony some side eye.

Last year, Twitter user @ReignOfApril started the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite to combat the Academy for their lack of diversity among the nominees. And while there are far more nominees of colour this year, actress Octavia Spencer, who's nominated for her role in the critically acclaimed film "Hidden Figures," told USA Today in January more needs to be done.
"I don’t feel there’s a lot of diversity. There’s black and white," she said. "But there are a lot more people of colour than African Americans... There’s so much more to diversity than being black or white... I’d like to see diversity in directing — there are brilliant women directors and cinematographers."
