With Valentine's Day come and gone, but winter still here, I couldn't think of a better time to write about food and sex. These two words together tend to conjure up visions of dark chocolate and oysters, but those are only two of the sexy foods that you can use to your advantage this season (and year round, actually).

Most of these recommendations are plant-based, which can lighten a romantic meal. SO much better than being weighed down by a heavy dinner that gives you gas ... totally unsexy!

Beets

Men need nitric oxide to help things rise to the occasion; beets increase nitric oxide levels in the body, much like ED drugs do. Serve up a roasted beet salad for dinner, and garnish it with arginine-rich pine nuts (see below!) for a super-sexy appetizer.

Watermelon

This juicy fruit is full of a phytonutrient called citruline, which converts to the amino acid arginine. Arginine is known to boost nitric oxide levels in the body - this causes blood vessels to relax which in turn increases blood flow to certain areas ahem.

Another great source of arginine is nuts, which are also full of heart-healthy fats.

Spinach and Kale

Better serve your honey some salad for dinner, because the magnesium and folate in leafy greens can amp up sex drive and get you ready for action! Dark leafies also have lots of niacin, which boosts blood flow, and you know what that means!

Hemp Hearts and Pumpkin Seeds

These tiny powerhouses both contain zinc, which will boost libido and is used when the body makes men's sex hormones. Both are delicious mixed into salads, yogurt, or as a coating for fish. As a bonus, pumpkin seeds contain vitamin E and selenium, which strengthen the arteries for when your heart beats faster..which hopefully, it will!

Salmon and trout

Fish isn't just a great source of protein, fatty fish like salmon or trout are fab for the heart which, as you know, beats a lot harder when things heat up in the bedroom. Anything that strengthens the heart will undoubtedly help stamina too.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes and other red fruits and vegetables (watermelon..again) contain lycopene, which helps maintain prostate health. A healthy prostate means less chance of ED..which is a good thing!
