No True Muslim Would Shoot a Young Girl

Posted: 10/11/2012 6:45 pm

The shooting of the young Pakistani activist shows one thing: Fanatics are cowards who stand on a shallow ground and can not defend themselves even against a child. Instead, they resort to violence to silence their critics. They lack confidence and are weak to the bone.

As news organizations reported, Malala Yousufzai was shot and seriously wounded on Tuesday as she was leaving her school in her hometown in the Swat valley, northwest of the capital, Islamabad. This incident should mobilize Muslims to try to remove what I call "ugly Muslims" from running the show and occupying the steering wheel.

I used to dismiss the outcry coming from Afghanistan regarding the human rights violations of the hard line Taliban who denied people from their basic rights including women from going to school and getting medical treatment. I used to dismiss these claims as Western anti-Islam propaganda. I could not imagine a Muslim would do such a thing. The allegations were about everything that goes against the teachings of Islam.

Not long afterwards, our people in Somalia received the same curse as the people of Afghanistan. Murderers -- Al-Shabab -- had disguised themselves under religion and started persecuting people in the most vicious manner, not even witnessed during the colonial era. Al-Shabab has reminded me of the Christian terrorists who waged merciless war against the innocent in East Africa.

According to Wikipedia: The Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), also known as the Lord's Resistance Movement, is a militant group/cult operating in northern Uganda, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the Central African Republic. It has been accused of widespread human rights violations, including murder, abduction, mutilation, child-sex slavery and forcing children to participate in hostilities.

Al-Shabab did not even leave the dead lying in their graveyards in peace. They had violated the sanctity of the dead by demolishing the graveyards and removing the human remains.

It is sad and shameful to see these thugs -- the Taliban, Al-Shabab, the LRA -- committing horrific crimes against humanity in the name of religion. Had they joined mafia or other gang groups, then committing atrocities would have been one thing, but doing their dirty work in the name of the faith is a great insult to those who follow the faith and to the faith itself.

Ah yes, the old "No true -insert religion here- would do anything bad" argument. Too bad it's a total fallacy.

Exactly. It's called the "no true scotsman fallacy" if anyone is interested.

Yes, why don't Muslims do something to rid the earth of these "extremists"? There are millions and millions of Muslims that are ashamed of the acts commited in the name of thier religion. Really?? Because I don't see any of them trying to do something about it.

You're sort of overlooking the Muslims who are part of the coalition aren't you? Turkey and Azerbaijan sent their soldiers to Afghanistan and Iraq on your behalf. I hope none of them are reading your post, they might wonder why they should send their citizens to die when so many Americans are ignorant of the contribution. Turkey's a member of NATO and has been deploying peacekeeping forces alongside us for decades. I'm a bit offended by your ignorance.

You are correct and I apologize for my hasty comment. Turkey and some others have been a staunch and trustworthy ally for many years. I was just so outraged that this little soul seemed to be the only one willing to stand-up against these cowards. The women are now protesting, but where are the men? Why are they not protecting thier daughters? Instead the crazies are willing to protest against a film made by another imbecil a half world away and when one man refuses to join the riot he is now facing a death sentence. Don't think that men in that town don't know who this coward is, why is he not being dragged through the streets.

Maybe more "true Muslims" need to step forward in kind acts towards women and gays. It seems that many of the horrible acts against both of those 2 groups of people seem to be justified by that religious group. It also seems that the writer is in the minority of that thought. I wish he was right.

It is not quite as extreme as this but it is much the same all across the Muslim world Stop the weak appeasement excuses this same thing happens in Canada by the same type of mindset. Stand up and speak out about this sickening behaviour.

The healthiest and best countries are the ones where women are treated well.

I wonder if the author has heard of "The no-true scotsman fallacy".

Oppressors do not want their victims to be educated. Education leads to knowledge which leads to action against the oppressor. The Taliban is a violent philosophy, cloaked in Islam in order to entice young men into the fold, young men who feel powerless and who most likely cannot even read the Quran to see for themselves. The Quran does not say not educate women and girls. In fact, it says that knowledge is incumbent on every Muslim, male and female alike. The people have to rise up and rid their lives of this evil; I hope the Taliban's days are extremely numbered.

thank you for this important information. Yes, they don't educate the women and anyone who is gay would have to remain hidden away from society. That religion is very radical.

Islam requires the death penalty for apostasy and blasphemy.
Islam itself requires that all Malala's be shot, stoned or beheaded.
Mr.Kasim is a weak-kneed apoligist, trying to blow a smoke-screen around the true nature of Islam.

Really? Tell us more. I'd like to hear more about how this global religion is good, especially for women.
02:00 PM on 10/12/2012
I do NOT think that Islam is good.
So you won't hear it from me.

Actually so does Christianity. Religions that tolerate apostasy don't last for a thousand years.

While I believe 99% of religious people are peaceful just as 99% of non-religious people are, it is the corollary of reward of eternal bliss for committing atrocities in the name of the faith that ultimately scares me. Considering there is zero evidence that any of the major religions are rooted in any reality, I would say my fear is justified and I would only guess those that would kill a teenage girl would claim it is you that is not the "real" Muslim. Scary stuff from the world of mythology and power hungry fear mongering.

real muslims act like mohammed. and what did mohammed do? he's got lots to answer for as he set an example for muslims to follow and that's what taliban does today.

Nice article;however, it is much more nuanced the bad vs the good.

It's hard to imagine anyone not recognizing that the Taliban are misogynistic thugs.
I'm not knowledgeable enough about Islam to know if devotees condone this type of violence.
I do know that theTaliban in Afganistan oppresses women and girls in the name of religion.
However, it's curious that these "religious" men then think it's OK to sexually assault women who are veiled from head to toe and confined to their homes.
