Empowering Girls and Women Globally

G(irls)20 was the first social profit enterprise to advocate that female labour force participation (FLFP) be a key element of G20 priorities and actions. The G(irls)20 Summit brings together one delegate from each G20 country, plus a representative from the European and African Unions, the MENA region, Afghanistan and Pakistan. In keeping with the G20 Turkey Presidency, a delegate from Azerbaijan, Singapore and Spain will also join this year's Summit. While the G(irls)20 delegates discuss the same topics as the G20 Leaders, the participants are all girls, aged 18-23. The 6th G(irls)20 Summit will be held on October 5th & 6th, 2015 in Istanbul. The focus of the 2015 Summit is to respond to the 2014 G20 Leaders commitment to create 100 million new jobs for women by the year 2025.

I'm Proving Women Are Wired For The Male-Dominated Tech Industry

Traditional occupations with high rates of female workers in Russia are medicine, education, hospitality and service industries. Ironically, these happen to be the industries with not-so-high salaries and meager career opportunities. The most lucrative careers are predominantly male, and there is no trend of change on the gender front.

The Invisible Women Of Pakistan

These enterprising, entrepreneurial and gutsy women play a major role in supporting families in Pakistan, yet officially, they are invisible. A large number of these women are often poor and engaged in either home-based economic activity or agricultural work leading to a lack of documentation.

Boosting Women's Entrepreneurship In Mexico And Latin America

In México, extraordinary wealth and heart-breaking poverty exist side by side. It is a land of harsh contradictions -- skyscrapers and wood houses, modern-day Internet and illiteracy. Years ago, when I used to think about this, I always asked myself; with all our diverse natural resources and hard-working labor force, why are we in this situation?

Creating Positive Change For Women In Italy

I believe that if institutions create greater educational and economic opportunities for women, we would immediately begin to see the positive impact on society. In my opinion, the Italian Government should highlight the capabilities of girls by creating more opportunities for dialogue to influence policies that benefit women and girls.

Indonesian Womanpreneurs: Struggle To Success

Being a female worker in Indonesia is not easy. Juggling life as a mother, wife, child, and worker, turns your days into endlessly tiring routines. Although Indonesian women have been living like this for so long, it is time that the suffering ends and new initiatives arise which both empower women while still giving them a chance to spend more time with their families. One solution would be to encourage more and more women to become entrepreneurs.

The Stigma Against Depression Hurts Us All

Talking about mental health, especially depression, is still highly stigmatized. In a society that values achievements as a sign of success, tackling the topic of depression seems daunting to many of us. In the public's mind, it is connected to ideas of weakness and laziness. Those suffering from depression are aware of this too -- which often keeps them from seeking help.

The 'Womenomics' Of Entrepreneurship

"Forget China, India and the Internet: Economic Growth Is Driven by Women." This headline from The Economist is sound advice and I encourage all governments to listen. Women are one of the most powerful drivers of global economic growth, yet their potential remains largely untapped. This is all the more striking when it comes to entrepreneurship.

The 4 Per Cent That Canada Is Leaving Behind

While Canadian society seeks to achieve economic parity among men and women broadly, the challenge is even greater in indigenous communities, particularly for women and girls. Canada has recognized the value of supporting women and girls in developing countries, and we must place equal emphasis on not only the education, but also health and wellbeing of indigenous women and girls here at home.

Change Starts At The Top, In Our Minds And Our Institutions

Over the past year, the Australian community has become uncomfortably aware of the pervasive culture of discrimination, bullying and sexual harassment within the medical profession. To those of us within the profession, it is clear that this deeply embedded culture of sexual harassment is a symptom of a much deeper problem.

Fostering Female Entrepreneurial Mindsets In Afghanistan

One of the main barriers that prevents Afghan women from entering the labuor force are traditional beliefs and biased views that women should be housewives and mothers rather than breadwinners. There is a stigma around families where the mother or daughter earns money and women's potential and abilities are severely suppressed.

A Flexible Workplace Helps Foster Genuine Gender Parity

While conditions can vary, we define flexible workplaces as organizations that allow employees a measure of control over when, where and how they work, including working part-time, working from home, setting their own hours and taking leaves of absence. Employees are increasingly seeking flexibility. For women, workplace flexibility is especially important.

G(irls)20 Meets The G20 Finance Ministers

Attending a G20 meeting is a rare opportunity for a teenage girl. It's an honour to be at an event where decisions are made that affect our entire planet and to have the chance to meet key decision makers. At every chance, I'm making sure to talk about the next generation's issues.

Want To Empower Rural Women? Give Them Sanitary Pads

Menstruation is universal, it is a part of a woman's identity and is something all women have to go through every single month. What the advertising neglects us to see is the thousands of women out there who have to work under very harsh conditions while having their periods.
