Shitting on Canada's Walk of Fame

| Posted 09.14.2012 | Canada Music

This inaugural blog entry will make certain our name gets stricken from the Canada's Walk of Fame nominations list forever by using this space to publicly shit on it -- metaphorically, of course. What's my beef? Nothing personal, but did you know that Jeff Healey does not have a star on Canada's Walk of Fame? At this point, a 2013 Canadian Walk Of Fame star for Healey might just be a tad embarrassing and too little too late.

Sorry Jian, There's no Such Thing as "Acoustic Rock"

When Jian Ghomeshi came on the air last week on his show Q to announce that Mumford & Sons were stopping by in a few days to play in-studio, he described them as "Acoustic Rock Sensations." I rolled my eyes and shook my head. To me, the word "Rock" has always meant "heavy." Flippantly pairing the word "Rock" with words like "acoustic" or "folk" or "soft" undermines and strips it of all its deserving weight.

There is No iPod Big Enough for the Avid Vinyl Collector

As a record collector, music has always been about quantity over quality, about how much music I can consume before I die. When iPods were new, we as music fans were at the precipice of something big. We were finally being catered to! Of course, just when we were gonna get that 500 GB iPod, Apple pulled the plug on music storage capacity in favour of Angry Birds, FaceTime and texting. So I'd like to gently propose a terabyte iPod. That's right -- a thousand gigabytes of free space meant only to keep 10,000+ records.
