Every Fall, when the Trend Reports come out, you're pretty much guaranteed to see, hear or read about boot trends for the Fall/Winter season. Given our climate here in Canada, boots are a staple that most of us either can't live without or wouldn't want to.

Many boots don't come cheap. Often when you invest in a good, solid pair of boots you'd like them to last more than one season. If you follow trends at all and if you're anything like me, you cross your fingers hoping that the boots you bought last year will still be on this year's hit list.

This year you're in luck. Many of the boots seen as last year's trends are still considered some of the best styles for the season.

Here is a list of just some of Fall's hottest boots that you might have lurking in your closet, waiting to come out. Again.

The Riding Boot

Riding boots have become a staple in most women's closets. These knee high, flat boots are extremely versatile, comfortable and easy to wear. They're great with a whole slew of clothing options and because of their practicality, I can't see them going out of style any time soon.

The Wedge Boot

Another popular style, the Wedge boot has been around for some time with most of the variation being in heel height and the addition of the platform base. One variation you might see this year is a pointier toe, but don't fret -- the rounder toe is still considered current.

The Motorcycle Boot

Although Motorcycle boots have been around for ages, in the last few years there's been a resurgence in the fashion world. What's great about this style of boot is that some designers have taken some of the edgy buckle details and incorporated them into various other boot styles.

The High Heel Boot

Here's another staple that will probably never go out of style. Luckily varying heel heights and thicknesses are popular this season. From stilettos to thicker heels, 2", 3" or 5", ankle, calf height or knee high -- you name it, they're in.

The Over the Knee Boot

I've been watching the over the knee boot since they first became extremely trendy a couple of years ago. And while I'm not sure they're as popular this year, they still seem to be holding their own and some of the top designers continue to bring out over the knee styles.

The Lace-Up Boot

Shootie, bootie, wedge or high heel -- boots with laces can be seen in a variety of styles. If you invested in a pair last year or in previous years makes sure you pull them out and you'll be right on trend.

The Hiking Boot

Often seen with lug soles or other classic hiking boot details, the fashion hiking boot usually sits on some sort of heel or wedge. This is another style I've been watching and it seems to be back for yet another season.

The Western Boot

While not a huge trend this year, Western styles are relevant for Fall. Classic cowboy shapes, pointy toed and thick heeled or fringed, don't be afraid to pull out your boots for another go.

As you can see, many of last year's styles are still on trend for the upcoming season. But please don't limit yourself to these -- this list is only meant to be a guide. If you're interested in following trends, all you have to do is flip through some magazines, look around at street styles and in the shops to see what's current.

If you have a pair of boots that you absolutely love but that don't seem to be all that popular this year, wear them anyways. Who knows? You might just start a trend of your own.
