Covenant Health's Edmonton "Angel Cradles" Makes me Proud to be a Christian

Congratulations to the Edmonton media for doing such a good job covering and promoting the opening of Edmonton Catholic Hospital's "Angel Cradles." Like I said, it makes me proud to be a Christian, to know that our Christian faith still means something very good in this day and age. It is like our Catholic hospitals in Edmonton, the Grey Nuns and the Misericordia, are saying to young distraught girls, it's OK, we understand life can be scary and hard sometimes. The Christians will care for it. The baby will be OK, and you will be OK too.

For more details, here is a link to a news report in the Edmonton Journal,

I am an evangelical Protestant Christian, but I know something good when I see it and so lots of praise to the Edmonton Catholic Archdiocese for a job well done. I know it is presumptuous for me, just an average guy, to say that, but I have the opportunity to express an opinion, and so I might as well.

As Christians, we get to choose the topic we will be famous for; that we will be remembered for, and it is this. When people are in real need, we are willing to take out our pocket books and really help. We will be remembered for "Angel Cradles" and programs of support to help women with crises pregnancies.

The general public and the media, if nothing else, are self-righteous, which does not mean they are always right, although they may think they are. (Christians, not so much, because we are told in the Bible, we are sinners, saved by God's grace and good teaching. Saved not by good works but saved for good works.)

Covenant Health's "Angel Cradles", if nothing else, will help nudge the public mind in the right direction.

And there is lots of nudging to do, especially encouraging young men to "buck up" and be responsible. Did anyone catch Obama's "throw away" line in the State of the Union Address? "...because what makes you a man isn't the ability to conceive a child; it's having the courage to raise one." As if acknowledging the mess we are in until young men step up to the plate and start hitting "homers" for their wife and their children. As if to say, listen young men, women's breasts are beautiful, but as far as you're concerned, they are designed, for her husband, and for her children.

Without interfering with anyone's rights in any way, I think the general public will support innovative daycare and adoption programs, perhaps supplied by Catholic Women's League volunteer grandmothers. And a Child Benefit Payment, to help pregnant women financially. And perhaps make in time giving birth the voluntary default decision. Less scary and more beautiful, like it was always meant to be.
