Andy Manko

Father of two living in the GTA

Andy Manko is 47 years old, happily married with two children in Mississauga, and works at a large international technology company. Andy was always a ‘big guy’ and part of a ‘big’ family. An athlete growing up, he didn’t see his weight as an issue.

Andy was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 31, weighing in at over 300 lbs. His father, also a diabetic, passed away from a stroke at the age of 57.

Four years ago, Andy was frequently travelling for work – he was stressed and eating very unhealthily. After many failed diet attempts, he realized he could no longer rationalize his lifestyle and made the decision to visit the Smart Shape Weight Loss Centre, which truly changed his life.

Losing over 100 pounds, Andy modified his diet and is much more active. In February 2010, Andy and his wife climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, exemplifying Andy’s commitment to living a better, healthier life.

How I Lost 100 Pounds

In less than two years I went from a guy who would take an elevator up one flight of stairs to someone who fulfilled a lifelong dream and climbed Kilimanjaro. I've lost over 100 pounds and I feel incredible. But lap-band system is no quick fix -- I've adjusted my diet and I exercise regularly.
