As CEO, Mr.Sauvé oversaw the development of the first-ever Red Cross field hospital in North America. Over the past six years the hospital has responded to multiple emergencies and crises including deployments to Haiti, Philippines, Nepal and Jordan.

I am learning about people getting help for family violence, addiction, and marital breakdown. Job losses are increasing the turmoil. And now, some people are asking for help for the first time, having watched their savings dwindle to nothing.

Many moments will stand out when I remember my trip through war-torn Syria, neighbouring Lebanon, and Turkey. But the gift of a little box crammed with children's dreams is a memory that will certainly stay with me. That's because the red and white box filled with poignant pencil sketches says so much about this five-year-old conflict.
